In this video, Mahalo expert Gene Shaw explains how you can decide how text options are displayed in the Type tab of the Preferences panel.
Type Preferences
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Type refers to letters, numbers or any other character inside a font. There are a few options in the Type section of the Preferences menu that allow you to change the manner in which fonts are handled by Photoshop.
* Smart Quotes, the first option in the Type tab, simply refers to the type of quotes that will be shown depending on whether or not this option is turned on or off. When Smart Quotes are on, they appear curved. When off, they appear straight.
* Show Asian Text Options would only apply if you speak or write any of the Asian languages or wish to show any of Asian type characters.
* Enable Missing Glyph Protection is a feature you'll want turned off, because if you're given a file that uses fonts that are not installed on your system, Photoshop will change the font to something completely different than the original. It's better to use the raw data and turn this feature off.
* If your primary language is English, you'll want to enable Show Font Names in English.
* Font Preview Size is a setting you'll have to adjust according to your own individual tastes and needs. This refers to the size of the fonts you can preview in the text menu bar.
