Learn to Listen - Spectral Listening with Cujo Sound - The Introduction.
Learn to listen - With Cujo Sound.
This is the introduction video to spectral listening.
After this comes lots of videos which are just exercises for you to practice with.
Take a piece of paper, write down the frequencies and give them names. It doesn't matter if you just write AAAA or OOOOO or IIIII on a sound if that's what it reminds you of, you can also write "train"". "fast train". "Waterfall" - it's up to you.
The point is that you with this exercise and technique will be able to quickly listen to frequencies, like when you are mixing your soundscape and point out where there is a problem in your soundscape without having to check out spectrums or other tools that you might not have available.
This will make it much easier for you to pinpoint problems or focus areas of how you should EQ your sounds or how to get rid of certain issues.
This basic introduction to spectral listening starts with 12dB notches on various frequencies, when you have mastered that - we'll move on to small notches, smaller intervals between the frequencies that we can select from, small increase in volume like 6 or 3 dB instead of 12.
Also doing this on actual sounds and music instead of on just pink noise. But more importantly what if a frequency is taken away from a mix, can we then tell which frequency was taken away?
with practice you can, quite precisely tell which frequency was taken away.
