In other news, yes I have taken all those ads and annoying things from all my videos (hopefully) so now we wont have to wait to skip an ad before watching. Hurrah. I discovered this week that my total gross income revenue stream from ad related internet services providers had netted me precisely Zero. With that I mind I thought 'up yours corporate money farmers, I'm taking my land back'. And so I did. Feels great.

What started out as a fun idea turned eventually into a lesson in perfectionism, from which I escaped just in time. I think I got the inspiration from Matt Chat or some reference he made which made me look into gaming reference/slang/jargon words such as level, power-up and lives. I then tried to think of the best examples from my Amiga top 100 and made those examples fit to the words. Then came the editing. Once I had the footage and captions for each word, I'd spend hours making up the quick explanations under each one, refining them to their minimum for ease of reading*.
Then the hard part was matching all this up to music. I chose one of my favourites, and I mix which deserves merit. But my catalogue was quite few words too long, which meant I had to make up an ending later. I inserted a slowed down original Turrican 2 track as the intro to the remix, and this gave me just enough to cover most of the captions with only two mute at the end. Then, by carefully tweaking fades and start times, and using symbol crashes to marry up with in-game impacts, things began to flow. The more smoothly the flow, the longer it took me to get it looking that way. Yes this video moves just a bit too fast, because I had to squeeze in so many words before the song ran out, and also to promote repeat plays. :) I swapped in many clips at the last moment and recorded some especially to get new footage. On paper I spent two weeks on this side project, but I'd say probably 6 days in total split into 5 hours each (I work on these late at night). That's some Hobby! (yes I'm single).
The ending to this video was originally a backlash against the adsense trademarked network, but in the end I didn't think they even deserved that much. Instead I kept the 'Not Funded' banner and changed the rest to reflect the overall situation. Its still a bit dark for an ending, but the gift was meant to be that 'no more ads will appear in future'.
