GINGA FUKEI DENSETSU SAPPHIRE ("Sapphire" for short) is a very late (1995) and very unusual STG for PC Engine, displaying graphics and gameplay reminiscent of NeoGeo and arcade games of the time, rather than the typical tropes associated with the PC Engine. The mechanics are modest but the feedback is great, and the music is worthwhile listening that adds greatly to the experience. Recc for emulation: lower the CDPSG volume to reduce the shot sounds and hear the music better :)

Easy mode is a substantial enough clear that I started here, taking a few days and 6-7 hours of practice (keep in mind that the game is only 25 minutes, so 6 hours here is much more repetition than the same time on the hour-long Blazing Lazers). I have yet to decide if I will pursue a Normal mode clear. As aforementioned, the gameplay is somewhat plain and has a very strict style, with character and weapon choice having little effect, so it doesn't beg replayability the same way a Soldier or Aleste title does.
