I'd be lying if I said I know much of the intricacies of this game, but one thing I've absolutely got to get better at is reading the descriptions of the many orbs and pebbles that get stuffed into our bag. Not doing so means it takes me longer to realise orb synergies or their drawbacks, both of which can cost me health.

The consolation prize is that it tends to be in the forest that I make these errors in judgement, the easiest of the three zones. Oftentimes you can make it through there despite making numerous mistakes, allowing you to come to terms with the tools in your arsenal and start shaping a proper strategy in the second area.

Getting the anvil that auto-upgrades orbs you get at the cost of health doesn't hurt, either.
