So far HAVOC unit has had a relatively easy beginning to the first mission but as with all things, it’s only going to get tougher as the game goes on. I can only imagine that the aliens didn’t know about HAVOC unit and thus weren’t ready for someone able to take them on on an equal footing, something that’ll surely change as they come to learn what we’re capable of. Entering the A.I lab was just the first objective in an over-arching first mission, more of a test of our capabilities then anything else. The real missions begins now with rescuing the scientist who holds the only functioning key for the hanger that we need to go to.
It’s at this early stage in the game that we’re introduced to a mechanic that was very common in the 90s, secret doors and fake walls. This game is more generous then most when it comes to both as it helpfully informs us of nearby fake walls and secret doors light up when hovered over by the cursor. To counter that, some of those aren’t as obvious as they would be in other FPS games, though that in itself isn’t a problem if you were paying attention to the map in the cutscene before the level. You won’t get a chance to look at a map so complete at any other time, so make sure to make a note of anything that looks important when you see it.
