This game features no music outside of the intro cutscene. I suggest that you play some music to go with the gameplay. If you want a suggestion for music for this video, one is provided below.

It's surprisingly easy to back yourself into a corner when everything looks exactly the same but this flaw isn't unique to Dungeon Hack. 90's dungeon crawlers did little to break the monotony of the aesthetic you explored, providing few distinctive features to help you navigate without consulting the map constantly. Lands of Lore somewhat averted this with the large open areas and areas that you could easily recognise, but games like this one and Eye of the Beholder suffered greatly from samey corridors that all blurred together after a while.

Dungeon Hack has the mini version of the map to help you, but it's so zoomed in that you still need to consult it constantly. That you can rarely tell if you've been turned around or are heading down a dead end can get you into serious trouble, though the compass can certainly assist with the latter if you're paying attention to it. Still, despite the problems it brings there's a certain nostalgia I have for the cramped corridors of the 90's dungeon crawlers, creating a claustrophobic atmosphere where you're often checking behind you to make sure nobody's sneaking up to trap you in a pincer move.

Fortunately, the enemies in this game don't have the AI to effectively trap me like that. Unfortunately they don't need to as I'm quite capable of running myself into a dead end even in areas I've already explored. It's a good thing we have those amulets which I can use to escape such peril, though not even they will last forever...
