Of all the activities in Minecraft, fishing is the one I least expected to have fun doing when I first tried it. I’ve never been a fan of fishing games or minigames focused around it, but this game is different. Fishing is a good risk free source of experience and food as well as being quite relaxing, watching the day go by while taking it easy by an ocean, river, lake or pond. The size of the body of water doesn’t matter so long as you can get your lure to float in it, resulting in some silly situations where you fish up huge piles of fish from a 1x1 puddle.

The true treasure of fishing however are the other non-fish items that you can catch. They range from mundane but useful things like bones, leather, water bottles, sticks and fishing rods to some truly wondrous treasures. I’ve no idea who threw away the perfectly serviceable saddles and magically enchanted books, bows and fishing rods that you can find, but I’m the last person who’s going to complain about finding them. If you’re really lucky, you can get enough magical bows and rods to create some truly powerful and everlasting artefacts that will serve you well for a long time to come, provided you’re patient enough.
