Let’s Play HC Minecraft Take Three #58: Zombies, the Worst Problem Solvers

None of the enemies in Minecraft are especially smart. While they’re not bad at pathfinding towards you, very few of them employ any level of strategy and almost all of them can be foiled by the placement of a few blocks. Even the mighty endermen can be bested by standing in a pool of shallow water or creating a small hole in the ground covered by a layer of dirt, allowing you slash at their legs without them being able to reach you. The true danger comes from being caught off guard or surrounded, assailed on many sides with no way to escape, but even a dead end can be defensible with the right placement of blocks.
Of all the enemies, zombies are both the least and most dangerous. Their strength is in numbers, more appearing as you attack them in an effort to overwhelm you. This however is mitigated by their lack of ranged attacks, slow speed, an inability to sneak up on you due to the noises they make and no survival instincts whatsoever. While they can smash wooden doors down, iron doors thwart them and they’re completely unable to climb ladders, making my lookout post an unassailable stronghold provided I remain on the elevated platform. It pays not to underestimate them however, for even the humble zombie can take you out if a number of them get too close, doubly so if you don’t have armour. I’ve died more than once to zombies in my time and even had a hardcore minecraft run end because of them in a way that was not only ironic but completely avoidable, but such is life.
