Let's play Hollow Knight. Regular playthrough, Part 17: Finishing Touches
This is my final episode of a first time playthrough of Hollow Knight. Considering the game actually ended last episode when I beat the Hollow Knight, I thought I'd flesh out any remaining mysteries. I FINALLY got good and beat the Trial of the Fool. I decided to re-do the trial of the warrior to see how far I'd come, and I smacked it out of the park, though I was a bit more upgraded as well I suppose. I didn't expect Zote to be the final entertainment piece. I was also expecting to fight Tiso but never did.....I redid the first trial again just to see if there was anything extra but there wasn't....
I fight Bretta's version of Zote and beat three iterations of him before deciding the 4th was too much. Couldn't believe Zote was still that arrogant though even after the Colosseum.
Having unlocked one pantheon door, I head inside seeing what it's all about. it's a bit like the boss battle mode in Super smash bros, but I was always going to fail against Nosk. I hate that thing. I do a bit of searching and run into Flukemarm by accident and Gorb who I somehow missed.
At this point I turn to a guide for the key in the City of Tears. There was still one in the Ancient Basin, and after a long search I find the banker thief and get my sweet revenge and Geo back.
I think I did a decent job, 96% completion without a guide up til this episode was decent I think. I also only missed 2 charms which isn't that bad either I think.
Final Thoughts:
Very good game with a lot of replay ability. It warrants another playthrough purely for the lore as many things will go over your head the first time around. The mechanics are good too, they aren't frustrating, there's loads of interesting environments, interesting characters, plenty of boss fights and some interesting worldly and fighting mechanics. There are still plenty of things I didn't dive into too much (like all the inscriptions, the godhome, the white palace I'm sure has a few more secrets), which also add to the experience.
The only criticism I can think of is those black barriers. They don't really make sense to me lore-wise and the dream nail not being used more. Having some lists on the NPCs like they did with enemies would have been nice as well. Otherwise I think that's all.
I recommend it. In future the only 3 things I'd do is:
1) Speedrun
2) Godhome
3) Normal playthrough focusing on Lore but I think anyone can get that from the web.
Have you played? What do you think?
