Let's Play Mickey's Magical Quest - Part 6: For Pete's Sake
We have at last reached the final stage of the game, where Emperor Pete resides, along with Mickey's poor pooch Pluto. (Why would you kidnap somebody's dog anyway? Beats me.) Obviously, this is by far the longest of the six parts, partly because there are once again 4 sublevels rather than 3 and partly because of the credits sequence, but primarily because Pete doesn't go down easily. Even if you don't get hit enough times to lose any lives, he still probably takes longer to beat than all the other bosses put together. At the same time, though, at least the boss battle provides a decent challenge (at least, compared to the rest of the game). It's rather ironic that the only continues I lost during this LP were both in stage 2....
Anyway, we start out in 6-1, which introduces you to the castle and its native enemies and establishes that you will need all of the special outfits you have obtained throughout the game to get through the stage. 6-2 consists of nothing but riding a magic carpet down through a passage lines with instant-death spikes. 6-3 throws in a few more enemies and some false exits containing battles with previous minibosses. 6-4, naturally, is the final boss battle. Pete has quite the variety of attacks, and you better learn how to deal with all of them, because, as mentioned, he takes a lot of hits to defeat. After you beat him, Mickey is reunited with Pluto, the entire adventure is revealed to be nothing more than a bad dream (or was it???...), and all is well.
With that, that concludes this Let's Play. One month, six videos, and it's over...sure went quick, huh? The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse - which I still find to be too long and cumbersome a name to say in full - is a pretty solid SNES platformer, and while it may star classic Disney characters, that doesn't mean it will be a pushover. The game isn't hard by any means, but it's not too easy either. It actually spawned two sequels, The Magical Quest 2 (also known as The Great Circus Mystery) and The Magical Quest 3, which wasn't released in America (which is rather ironic for a game about Mickey Mouse). I'll probably LP MMQ2 and 3 at some point, although I'm having a devil of a time even finding a ROM of the third game, let alone an English patch for it. No, I won't just play the GBA version. Apparently they were re-released for the Game Boy Advance, including the third game, but it just wouldn't be right. In any case, I still have plenty left of my Super Mario RPG LP...but I plan to start right up on another game as well. As usual, I haven't decided for *sure* which one, but I'm strongly leaning toward Mega Man X2, or possibly X4. In any case, thank you all for watching, and I'll see you next time!
