Let's Play Phantasy Star IV #02: Motavia Academy
366Motavia is an arid world with large amounts of desert but also large pockets of lush green and life. It is in these areas that the people of the world, descended from parmanians that emigrated to Motavia in the far past live generally peaceful lives. At least, they were peaceful until recently. Monster sightings are on the increase and though they rarely attack towns it's made traveling the world a dangerous prospect. Enter the hunters: a group of warriors who are hired to fight these monsters and protect the people of Motavia. Their work has been increasingly lucrative over the years as monsters have become more prevalent and though that's good for business, it's poor for the prospects of Motavia. Add to that some of the environmental issues the planet is starting to suffer from and the long term prospect for the world looks bleak.
But we're not focusing on that. Our attention is on Alys Brangwin, a legendary hunter who has been sent an urgent letter to go to the nearby academy for an unknown reason. Accompanying her is Chaz Ashley. Formerly a trainee under Alys, he's now a fully fledged partner and a hunter in his own right, taking his first tentative steps into the world of monster fighting. Little do Alys and Chaz know that the enigmatic summons they've received will start them off on an adventure that will change their lives forever...
It's time to play a game I've never played before, so I can't say much about Phantasy Star IV save that I'm looking forward to seeing just how good it is. It's meant to be a really fun game that can be enjoyed perfectly well even if you haven't gone through the rest of the series and I'm going to put that to the test.
Since I have never played this game before, please refrain from posting spoilers for the plot in the comments.
