Pokémon Scarlet (ポケットモンスター スカーレット) and Pokémon Violet (ポケットモンスター バイオレット) are 2022 role-playing video games developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company for the Nintendo Switch.
They are the first instalments in the ninth generation of the Pokémon video game series. First announced in February 2022, they were released on 18 November 2022.
Unlike the previous instalments in the Pokémon franchise, Scarlet and Violet take place in an open world. The games take place in the Paldea region, based on the Iberian Peninsula.
There are three separate stories the player can follow. Scarlet and Violet introduce 103 new Pokémon, alongside two new regional forms.
Also introduced are time-displaced creatures known as Paradox Pokémon, and the Terastal phenomenon, which allows a Pokémon to transform into its exclusive "Tera Type".
The games maintain features from previous modern Pokémon games, including large open areas and Pokémon appearing in the overworld.
Scarlet and Violet have open worlds, which include both urban areas and open wilderness without borders between the two, unlike previous instalments in the Pokémon series.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero is a two-part downloadable content expansion pack for the 2022 role-playing
video games Pokémon Scarlet and Violet on Nintendo Switch. It is developed by Game Freak and published by The Pokémon Company and Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch.
The first part, The Teal Mask, was released on September 13, 2023, and the second part, The Indigo Disk, was released on December 14, 2023.
An epilogue, Mochi Mayhem, was released on January 11, 2024. The expansion pack's storyline introduced new Pokémon featured in the base games,
including new Legendary Pokémon Ogerpon, Fezandipiti, Munkidori, Okidogi, and Terapagos, who each serve as the focal Legendary Pokémon of The Teal Mask
and The Indigo Disk, and a new Mythical Pokémon Pecharunt, which is the focus of the epilogue.
