Let's Play Quake 2 Ground Zero #02: Already, the Challenge Ramps up
Ground Zero is not dawling at all when it comes to both enemies and weapons, throwing both at us in spades within the first few levels. It's clear that the developers want you to get to the point that they can present new opponents and fantastical guns and while I'm looking forward to the latter, the former has me a little concerned.
The shielded gladiators in The Reckoning, while an interesting opponent, were far greater damage sponges than they probably should've been for how complicated battling them was. Damage sponges present the risk of making combat with them monotonous and when combat is all your game is, you don't want to do that. That's not to say Ground Zero will do that, but the temptation to stick shields onto an old enemy and call it new is there.
