Compared to the first game that uses this engine - Star Trek 25th Anniversary, a game I've previously Let's Played - Judgement Rites starts off on a much darker tone. There's no peaceful mission to go and check out something wrong on an earth-like planet, not this time. We've got our work cut out for us if we want to see the second mission in this game...

As a point, the manual has the star map which you consult to find out where you need to go for each mission, acting as a kind of copy protection. Going to the wrong location spawns between 2 and 4 enemy ships (either Elasi, Klingon or Romulan) that you'll have to fight and gives no clue as to where the correct location is. It's more a time waster then true copy protection as eventually you'll guess the right location for each mission but it does makes it more difficult if you copied the game (or if you lost the manual)

The second game to use this engine, Judgement Rites has a number of subtle improvements made compared to the first. Characters move their mouths so that they're actually talking when their voice acting lines come up and both the graphics and audio have are sharper and clearer respectively. What unfortunately hasn't been improved are the options available for controlling the sound; you either have music on and off or sound on and off with sound containing both sounds effects and the voice acting. The balancing in-game leaves something to be desired as well with space combat being a little louder then the other parts of the game. I've done the best I can with the sound settings available to me, if I had the game higher it would've drowned me out quite badly at points. In 1993 volume sliders weren't always guaranteed unfortunately - Interplay didn't design this game with Let's Playing in mind.
