Let’s Play Tyrian 2000 #08: Getting to the Core of the Problem
So Microsol are planning on turning a world into a sun, one that they’ll be able to harness practically unlimited energy from. This bottomless resource would secure their might in the sector and eventually the whole universe as they dominated the energy market and turned said wealth towards their military might. The world they’re going to do this on also happens to contain the smartest minds in the universe outside of Microsol’s employ, resulting in the worst case of brain drain the universe has ever should the planet become a star. Gencore are trying their best to evacuate people but they don’t have enough time, so it’s up to Trent and only Trent to save the day, whether he wants to or not.
The game goes into no detail as to why this planet in particular would allow Microsol to get limitless energy, though it could be the ancient Zica technology within the world which would use the star’s power to create said fountain of power. How said technology would survive the temperatures of a sun is beyond me, but then this episode is the beginning of the game getting even more silly then it already was. All you really need to know is that there’s a problem and Trent has been forced to deal with it, which means more levels of blowing up enemy ships while trying to save the world. The game certainly gets harder from this point but our weapon load out is so absurd that we won’t see much difference in difficulty for a little bit, though starting the game on this episode is certainly a challenge. Our lasers should carry us through however, provided I don’t pilot Trent into a wall.
