Let’s Replay Action 52 (Gen) #06: There’s No Escape
122When you start playing a game like Action 52, you look at the number of games and muse that it won’t take long to go through them all. That is indeed the case for the first couple but as you move through the collection, each game starts to feel longer. They’re not actually longer, but as the most ‘difficult’ games are at the beginning, they’re the ones that you fail at the fastest. The ‘intermediate’ ones are easier to play and so you get to the later levels, allowing you to experience more of the unbridled joy* that comes from watching the games ramp up the difficulty to absurd proportions.
It’s when you get partway through the intermediate games that you remember there are ‘easy’ games. You realise that they’ll take even longer to get through and some of them you might actually complete. Your only options are to purposefully lose your lives or accept your fate and trudge on, hoping that one of them will be just fun enough to validate playing through all nine levels of it.
But none of them are. There is no escape. The next exit to Segaville will never arrive.
*That statement was sarcasm. There is actually no joy to speak of within any of the games in this collection.
