Let’s Replay Action 52 (Gen) #04: Anything Look Familiar?
126We’ve already seen that some of the games in this collection of games aren’t the most original ideas, but we’ve only scratched the surface of what Action 52 has to offer us. Unfortunately, most of those offerings fit into a few game types, reused over and over with only changes to the sprites and light alterations to gameplay to differentiate it from the others. You’ll find a lot of vertical and horizontal shooters in this collection as well as many games that boil down to ‘avoid the thing’, both of which become very samey after you’ve played a couple of them.
When it does do something different however, that’s not always a good thing. Some of the games are truly unique ideas, but others are just game ideas already done better in the past with only the slightest of alterations, if anything has been changed at all. You’d think with all of the time between the original games and this one that Farsight Technologies would improve upon the gameplay of the originals but if you believe that, you clearly haven’t watched the previous videos.
