There are a number of things we want to get on this floor aside from rescuing Dombur. I've never tried to progress beyond this point without rescuing him and while I imagine it's possible - much like it's possible to not rescue Karzac - you really won't want to as there's no benefit to him not being in the party. As well as Dombur, we want to locate an item critical to completing the game as well as a few things that it'd be nice to have, though all those things are very well guarded and not just by the guards we've seen so far.

There's another type of enemy here that we've yet to encounter, one that can be far more dangerous then the guards. While they're decent melee combatants that's not where their strength lies, for they are skilled in the magic. We've seen a few throggish runes in our travels and its those spells as well as a few mannish ones that they'll use against us. Believers in the best defence being a good offence, they eschew spells that would really help them - one spell they possess would render most of my attack methods moot - and like the guards, they can be taken care of quite easily if you're careful in positioning and fast to react. Still, they're a threat that shouldn't be disregarded and one which definitely shouldn't be confronted at low health.
