With the success of the alien base mission, X-COM now has what they need to finish the final few plot critical research topics. The alien commander needs to be interrogated and after that, there’s just one more research topic to study. We’ll need to get through both of them plus build the Avenger before we can access the final mission of the game, so until then it’s business as usual for X-COM; the aliens aren’t going to stop what they’re doing just because we took out another one of their bases after all. If anything, they’ll be stepping up their efforts even more as we inch ever closer to stopping them once and for all.

It’s easy to get complacent at this point and do nothing but let time pass so the research can finish and the Avenger gets built faster, but that’s the last thing we want to do. Even at this late stage, having two consecutive months of bad negative monthly scores will see X-COM shut down and everything we’ve achieved all for naught, so we need to keep the pressure on the aliens and do whatever we can to stop them succeeding. It’d be a silly thing to throw it all away after so long, so let’s stick to what we’re good at and soldier on.
