This is video #068 in my playthrough of Lufia & the Fortress of Doom. This video does not contain commentary. To view the commentary version, click here: https://youtu.be/J-7DP1Hnf8g

The party has reached the top floor of the Fortress of Doom on Doom Island. They have swept Gades and Amon from their path.

Now, it is time for them to approach Daos (time 0:19).

After some brief dialogue, it is time for the party to battle Daos. He is not all that different from Amon, as he will primarily nuke the party with magic. His bag of tricks includes Bolt, Flood, Glacier, and Vulcan. He has Amnesia; I think this may either mute or insta-kill party members. He can use Dread, but again, this is pointless, since he does not physically attack.

A similar strategy to the one used on Amon will work here. Mirroring his spells back to him is effective. Otherwise, boost attack power, stay healed, and attack.

After the battle, Max reaches Level 56 (time 4:04). Aguro reaches Level 54.

Another scene takes place afterwards (time 4:17). Daos attempts to make all the Sinistrals merge, but the Dual Blade interferes with this process.

After the scene, the party will begin their final battle against Guard Daos (time 5:35). Best of all, Lufia will be back in the party! She will have the same stats and equipment as when she left. The boss music here is pretty amazing, even though it is not unique to the battle.

Guard Daos has some powerful attack magic, including Flood. He can use Figual, a group debuff can confuse party members.

The best attack here is likely to be Lufia's Thunder spell. If she has the Flash Ring equipped, Thunder can do well over 400 points of damage. Otherwise, the same strategy from before can be effective. With Jerin tied up Mirroring everyone, Max's Valor spell will be the best means of healing. Deal with confusion as quickly as possible.

Before long, Guard Daos should fall, and the final scenes will begin playing on Doom Island (time 10:39). The scene turns out to be pretty sad.

During the scene, we cut to Professor Raile Shaia and his son, Lou (time 14:07).

Then, there is a scene with Flake, the elder of Arus, atop the Tower of Grief (time 14:29).

Next, there is a scene with Artea in Elfrea (time 14:56).

There is a scene by Guy's grave afterward (time 15:20).

Then, the scene on Doom Island continues (time 15:35). Fortunately, Aguro and Jerin are not about to leave Max behind. They dash out to the Falcon before things fall apart.

The scene continues as they land on solid ground (time 15:58). Poor Max.

Next, a scene takes place one year later in Lorbenia with Aguro and Jerin (time 16:43). Heh, sounds like things are not all nice and rosy between them! Pretty funny.

Afterward, there is a scene with Max, Elder Flake, and someone else in Arus (time 19:18). A very nice scene. Flake has quite a story about the village's newest resident.

Near the end of the scene, the final credits music begins to play (time 23:58). Then, the credits for this awesome game play (time 24:23).

A small teaser is shown after the credits (time 28:01). "Some day...."? What will happen some day?

After the credits, we see the battle records (time 28:11). It appears I succeeded in my goal to open every treasure chest and get every loose item in the game. That is not a trivial task because some items can only be collected at certain spots in the story, and some chests' contents will be replaced by Dragon Eggs when the Egg Dragon scatters them again.

I enjoy this game. It's not the best RPG there is, but it definitely deserves attention. It's pretty clear that this game draws a lot from Dragon Quest. The graphics are not bad for an RPG from the SNES era. There is a lot of good music in this, particularly the Doom Island theme and Lufia's theme. I found the story quite enjoyable, especially the story related to the protagonist and Lufia. There is a lot of humor in this game in addition to the RPG drama.

As for the battle system, that part definitely shows its age, especially when your parties whiff at enemies that are already dead. This game is not terribly long by today's standards, either. In most respects, the next game, Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals, is a better game.

This concludes my playthrough of Lufia and the Fortress of Doom. I hope you have enjoyed watching it as much as I have enjoyed making it.

Thanks for watching!
