This stage is quite respectable. It seems fairly easy at a glance, but the more you play it the more you realize it tests your EX weapon usage and ability to move quickly and precisely.
The Jungle Block's gimmicks are the vines, the thorns and the flower mobs. The vines regrow if you don't burn them with the fireball and they are the main obstacle to getting consistent Quick Razors in the first half of the stage. You really have to move fast or you can't maintain the chain. The vines also give Optic Barrier a chance to shine.
The thorns, you don't really interact with too much on Hard Mode, unless you want go on the baybei path when presented with the level's branch.
The flower mobs can be annoying. Even more annoying if you don't know that the Lv3 Fireball can block their bullets if you turn Copen around while shooting. You also get double Aerial EX bonus for burning them so they were definitely designed with the Fireball EX weapon in mind.
Now let's talk about the level branch. On the upward path covered with the thorns, the baybei path, there's 5 enemies. Sum crickets and sum turret boiz. 500 points. But on the hairy chest path, there's 3 flower mobs, 2 of which are in considerably bad positions. Burn them all and you get 600 points. The checkpoint is also placed really badly when coming out of there which makes it very easy to make mistakes on this path all round.
It's a test of precision and courage that you take if you wanna chase big scores. Or maybe if you just like burning plants. Whatever works.
Speaking of plants, this Miniboss is so obnoxious that I don't even wanna give him a paragraph in this description. He even appears again in the Passage to Top Floor level. Send help.
Vespa is one of the game's easiest boss imo and you can get pretty comfortable with her because she gives you a lot of time to recognize her patterns and punish her for them. You can also keep the Razor wheel going all the way during her MITENASAI bombardment, but because I'm stubborn in weird ways, I didn't do this here. See me in the Vespachrome fight.
Also, her Super move is among the easiest to evade even if you don't have overdrive. The scariest part of it is that it reduces the area of the map you can stand on making the subsequent fight harder if you don't make good use of hover and patience.
All in all, this run was OK. I made some silly mistakes. First half went more or less as planned, but I missed shots on a few of the flower mobs, the miniboss and on the very first enemy in the 2nd half.
Fun stage overall. Vespa is QT.
