I found a way to continue playing while Photo Mode is active, resulting in a myriad of weird looking scenes and some side effects. This first part is just on how to start the glitch and what it generally looks like.

0:00 - I first discovered how to do this at Gutgash's place. If you talk to Gutgash before doing any activities in his territory, you'll get a pop-up window saying his mission is locked. Timing things so that this pop-up appears at the same time with Photo Mode overlaps the two. Now, closing either one resumes gameplay while the other still remains active.

Closing the message and leaving Photo Mode active is the more interesting option of the two. Now the player will control the Photo Mode controls and Max simultaneously, which is extremely awkward to do, especially since Max's controls tend to get reversed too.

0:37 - if you talk to Gutgash some more inside Photo Mode, you buffer several extra pop-up windows that appear in a row after you close Photo Mode. This too has its use later on. Although the queue isn't particularly long, something like 9 messages at most before the game starts forgetting them.

0:51 - if you choose to "take photo" or switch away from camera sub-menu, you get a fixed camera angle. Pretty cool to see the world from various fixed camera angles - allows you to make the game feel like an old school horror game.

1:37 - leaving Stronghold gives you some glitchy camera movement and also makes you lose control of Max.

Oh, the Magnum Opus isn't invisible, even though it might look like it here. The car is just automatically driven a little further down the road so you don't see it in this view. At the end I close Photo Mode, and then there's the long queue of buffered pop-ups that I mentioned earlier.

2:23 - so, how to use the buffered pop-ups to your advantage? When outside, you can close the glitched Photo Mode to regain control of Max, then start the glitch again with a buffered pop-up to take a fully functioning Photo Mode glitch into the great outdoors. Having Photo Mode active while driving also feels... quite weird.

3:23 - The camera doesn't move as fast as your car, so eventually the car starts dragging the camera behind it. The visibility isn't so great from this distance, though. And this is before you even apply filters and other crud on top of the screen (which you can now do in real time).

4:14 - some Max's actions up close. Interestingly, the binoculars don't work as they should: you see Max from 3rd person the whole time while using them.

4:58 - some distant combat while the Photo Mode is active. Thankfully the square button does nothing interesting inside the Photo Mode screen, so you're mostly not in danger of accidentally closing it or screwing up the settings.

5:21 - then I start getting creative with the real time filters and such... Well, the more crazy looking clips messing with the filters are in the later videos I guess.

5:55 - using the sniper rifle during Photo Mode glitch just shows Max turning invisible. Despite being able to aim at weird angles, the bullet trajectory has its limits, and you can't shoot at your car for instance.

6:21 - if you start aiming harpoons while driving, the game is in slow motion, allowing you to catch up to Magnum Opus with the camera. This is one way to control the Photo Mode camera a little better while driving, although it's a bit slow.

6:49 - a close-up of Chumbucket's car repair animation. I guess Max's car has a single load-bearing bolt that needs constant tightening or else the whole thing will explode. Well, I guess Chum knows what he's doing...

7:05 - you can keep controlling Photo Mode during some less important cutscenes. It looks pretty neat.

7:33 - also tried what happens if you get a game over during Photo Mode. But the Photo Mode is closed down, and the glitch ends with it. (Getting a game over also clears the memory of any buffered pop-ups.)
