Hey, everyone!

After a quite larger hiatus (once again), this time, I present something something different... Magical Battle Festa!

In short, Magical Battle Festa is a 3D beat em up with an unique twist of its own : each fighter is given their own array of AI-controlled bots, Magibots, to help them in the fight with various buffs accessed by putting them into different kinds of formations, Other than that, it's a pretty standard game, all things considered. I won't go deeper in the mechanics, since you can read the official manual which explains things much better than I could, if you are interested in trying out the game. It can be played either in 1v1, in team battle modes (2v2, for example) or as a 4-way free for all.

While admittedly, it is a fun game overall, the balancing is quite horrible. Players who have cleared the story, if you are planning to play online, will have an insane advantage over players who have not, since they have unlocked the best formations (mainly the formations which have the bots attack nearby enemies), and some of said formations (Cross, Equal) can turn any character into an unstoppable killing machine for as long as they are active. And there are even Skills which increase your formation gauge regeneration rage (the gauge which governs when you can switch formations). Riiiight....

About the combo system itself, there isn't much to say about it. You have two types of attacks : physical... well... Attacks... and magic attacks in the form of Force, and you can do them while running forward or charge them up. Clever mixing of attacks, Force attacks, jump cancels, and sometimes charge attacks are needed to execute the not-so big variety of combos the game has to offer. Note though, that due to the nature of the game, unless you are doing 1v1, combos are pretty much useless, and, as mentioned, attacking bot formations can easily ruin your combos as they can attack you even mid-combo! And let's not talk about a 2v1, for example. The lack of comeback systems means that in this situation, even with powerful formations, a team which has lost an ally will be definitely going down with no chance to turn the match around.

As for Albis herself, she is, without a doubt, the worst combo character in MBF. Having no physical and force chains at all, her only options to combo are to use jump cancels, wallsplats, and most of all, stuns, to her advantage. Stun Up is pretty much mandatory in this regard, as she can't really stun in one combo otherwise, and so is Combo Mania to make the Down Rate fill slower.

While I am not 100% sure the combo in the video is legit, the opponent's down rate (which ends the combo if it hits 100) has not reset pre-Ultimate Force hit, so it should be an actual, inescapable combo if done correctly. Ultimate Force is the game's Ultra move, pretty much (Over Force being the game's "super" move, per se), though it requires both Overdrive (a personal booster) and Chain Drive (magibot booster) to be active, so the opportunity rarely comes up, but if there's an opportunity, there's no reason not to go for it! (provided you are doing 1v1 or your teammate, if you have one, is keeping the other opponent busy)

-Hyper Jumper (increased jump speed, a real godsend)
-Combo Mania (Praise this one. The game says it "allows more downtime between combos", but what it really does is have the Down Rate fill somewhat slower. Amazing for combos)
-Stun Up (Opponent can be stunned easier. Another godsend)
-Power Shooter ("Force has better cancelling effect"...? I guess it's against other Force attacks, but whatever)
-Force Jump Canceller (jump cancel Force attacks. Great for Albis and for offense... not so much otherwise)
