*– VIDEO INTRODUCTION –*

This playthrough shows:

• a no-death run of the first loop.

After defeating Babylon in the Automated City, the game will loop back to the Forest, but at a higher difficulty level.

The timestamps for each location can be found at the bottom of the video description box.

*NOTE¹:* Touching an already assembled body part can sometimes create an energy ball – [as seen at 06:08, for example]. However, the exact criteria for this to happen are unknown to me. If you know, please tell me (in the comments section below)!

*– GAME OVERVIEW –*

_MagMax_ for the Nintendo Entertainment System is a belt/side-scrolling shoot 'em up (shmup). The game was ported by Nihon Bussan – their first NES title – and published by FCI and Pony Canyon. It was released in North America in October 1988.

• _MagMax_ began as a coin-operated video game for the Japanese arcade (AC) market. Developed by Nihon Bussan and published under their Nichibutsu brand, it was released on March 18, 1985.
◦ Shigeki Fujiwara – creator of Nichibutsu's _Terra Cresta (テラクレスタ)_ series – directed the game.
◦ On April 2, 2015, and May 7, 2020, the arcade version was ported to the Sony PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Nintendo Switch (NSW), respectively, in Hamster's _Arcade Archives (ACA) (アーケードアーカイブス)_ series.

• In _MagMax,_ a highly civilized group of aliens is attacking Earth. Before the planet is conquered, a group of scientists manage to create one last weapon, MagMax. Only the titular transforming robot and its pilot can defeat the alien invaders.
◦ By collecting body parts (the head, legs and wave beam gun) MagMax's offensive power increases.
◦ The boss character, a three-headed mechanical dragon – called "Gigantic Mechanical Monster Babylon" – bears a strong resemblance to Mecha-King Ghidorah from the _Godzilla (ゴジラ)_ franchise.

• The action in _MagMax_ takes place on two planes. MagMax can travel between the surface and underground via Warp Halls – [at 00:39].
◦ Surface and underground have different enemies and obstacles, and the perspective changes between planes. (The surface is a side-scroller, while the underground allows for isometric movement, i.e., a belt-scroller.)
