*– VIDEO INTRODUCTION –*

To perform the ladder glitch in _Donkey Kong,_ have Mario stand slightly to the left of the first unbroken ladder on the 25 m (or Ramp) stage and then press down. Mario can now climb from the bottom to the top of the stage.


*– GAME OVERVIEW –*

_Donkey Kong Original Edition_ for the Nintendo Entertainment System is a 2D fixed-screen platformer. It was ported and published by Nintendo. The game was released in Europe on October 29, 2010.

This enhanced port of the Nintendo Family Computer (FC) or Famicom and NES versions of _Donkey Kong_ came preloaded as a Nintendo Virtual Console (VC) title with the New Super Mario Bros. Wii Pack. It restores some missing sprite animations and also adds the 50 m (or Conveyor Belt/Pie Factory) stage that was omitted in the original conversion (probably due to the storage limitations of the ROM cartridge).

This version has also been made available for the Virtual Console (VC) service, viz.:
- 3DS – Region: Japan – Release Date: July 28, 2012 (Promotional Bonus)
Region: USA – Release Date: October 1, 2012 (Promotional Bonus)
Region: Europe – Release Date: September 18, 2014

• _Donkey Kong_ began as a coin-operated video game for the Japanese arcade (AC) market. It was released by Nintendo on July 9, 1981.
◦ The game was developed by Nintendo Research & Development No. 1 (Nintendo R&D1) and marked the debut of Shigeru Miyamoto as lead designer.
◦ Although Ikegami Tsushinki had no role in its creation or concept, they were subcontracted to provide mechanical programming assistance.

• In _Donkey Kong,_ Donkey Kong has kidnapped Mario's girlfriend, Pauline (known as Lady in the arcade version). The player takes on the role of Mario and must rescue her.
◦ Originally an unnamed carpenter, the hero was later given the name Jumpman and then Mario (after the late Nintendo of America warehouse manager, Mario Segale).

• Universal Studios filed a lawsuit against Nintendo claiming that _Donkey Kong_ infringed on their _King Kong_ trademark.
◦ They ultimately failed.

• _Donkey Kong_ spawned the sequels _Donkey Kong Jr. (ドンキーコングJR.)_ (1982) and _Donkey Kong 3 (ドンキーコング3)_ (1983), as well as the 1983 spin-off _Mario Bros. (マリオブラザーズ),_ which launched the _Mario (マリオ)_ franchise.
