Majin Tensei II is a 2.5D Tactical Turn-Based RPG, released in 1995 for the Super Nintendo/famicom. It was Developed and Published by ATLUS. The Fan-Translation was released in 2018 by DDSTranslations.

STORY: 14/20
The story follows a group of Devil Summoners known as 'The Partisans' who rid Tokyo of remaining demons. As the story progresses (what little of story there is) you eventually time travel to the past to save the future of your present.. well.. very back to the future.. HA! HA! I find the story to be lacking throughout the game. you'll often find yourself just going through scenarios, defeating monsters and wondering "why and I doing this?" but it's not all that bad really if your into slaying monster after monster for a bit of story that leads you forward slowly.

GRAPHICS: 18/20
Oh man, the graphics is WAY better than the first game, I was really impressed with the battle graphics of skills, magics, and how your characters and monsters look. The animations of skills and magic are animated quite well and the areas you battle on look a million times better, however.. even though the character models moving around the map are improved I still didn't like how they look and just don't resemble your characters at all. That said, over all the graphics are much higher standard than what you usually see with these types of tactical games.

SOUND: 20/20
Well of what I heard it sounded great, upbeat, menacing at times, and the OST is quite large in terms of tracks and all suit the game well. The sound effects are plenty in this game, too many to list but it has all the bells and whistles for the usual RPG stuff you'd expect.. and none were annoying unlike the 1st game.

GAMEPLAY: 16/20
The gameplay has improved so much fro the first game, everything is controlled much easier though for some reason I just couldn't get off the first level, ha ha.. that's just probably me though, 'cos I don't usually like this type of RPG genre. SO you control your party move around the field stopping monsters from getting to your bas whilst manoeuvring your party also to the enemy side.. however there's more to it than just that, you do have rule you need to follow each scenario. You can attack with weapons and eventually magic, also control monsters to do the attacking for you if you wish, again with weapons or magic. There's different locations on the map that can do things for you at each round such as heal your party member and such so keep an eye out for pools. The game plays on a 2.5D level design, compared to the first game which was top-down. Sometimes I found that because of the 2.5D movement of the select box can be annoying at times because it don't go to the square you want. Battles are taken in turns, like the rounds for you and the enemy, they are then taken to separate screens that do whatever automatically, so you actually don't control battles.. those are automated.. you just have to plan ahead of time what you want to do. The gameplay is definitely a step up from the first game though there is some pause time between yours and the enemy turn.

TRANSLATION: 18/20
The translation is great, there's a lot of text to read that sometimes gets a little much at points. I did notice a few quick glitches that happen with the screen but resolves itself near instantly. I didn't see any text overflow, or anything untranslated so it's not a bad effort by DDS.

OVER ALL: 86/100
This is a complete improvement from the first game, everything just looks much better and weirdly plays easier. Do I recommend this now? yeah, if your into these type of RPG games.
