Majin Tensei is a Tactical Turn-Based Rpg for the Super Nintendo/Famicom. It was released in 1994, and Developed & Published by ATLUS. The English Fan-Translation patch was released in 2019 by DDSTranslations. This was the first game for the system of two games that were a spin-off series of the Megami Tensei series of games.

STORY: 8/20
A digital program was created that bridged the demon world to our world, this allowed demons to escape into this world and wreak havoc. Another program was created for heroes who would brave the call to arms against the Demons that allows them to control them if captured and use them against rampaging demons and the overlord of them all.

Yet another Tensei game with a demon force trying to take over our world, ugh! this story is done to death for the entire lot of the series the Tensei games have.. like all billion of them.

GRAPHICS: 15/20
Graphically, this game ain't too bad, the battle scenes and monsters look great, your character art looks great, menu designs are a little cramped but they still manage to look nice. Monster sprites and character sprites are quite ugly, along with the ugly maps you battle on. The game makes use ov Mode 7 for the world map, this looks okay. Spells, Magic, and attacks are nicely animated.

SOUND: 10/20
Sound effects get old quick, fairies that sound like car tyres screeching is a laugh a minute when they move. The game's OST is okay but nothing special, they certainly make multiple uses of tracks which gets boring eventually because of the dark tone to them. The tone of the OST makes many of the tracks sound near the same, but hey.. at least there IS actual music in areas.

GAMEPLAY: 12/20
Take turns for moves of your party, most members of which you summon in a turn. Destroy the enemy each round, but you must follow the scenario's rules to win or you'll fail. Menu navigating is tricky at first until you figure out what does what, how to move battles on and such. The game is pretty straight forward and simple if you plan ahead of time. One mistake CAN cost you your entire party so SAVE regularly. There seems to be some type of button lag input which is why i kept opening the damn status menu, that wasn't on purpose. Levels are quite small but still takes you a good few minutes to get around, defeat the monsters and get to the end location. You can capture monsters by using TALK on them, some will join you, others will ask questions, some want payments and some others want marriage.. LOL! There's a fusion process where you can combine Demons you capture to make them stronger, these will evolve differently so their looks will change too, that's a pretty cool system but like many of the Tensei games, it's quite a deep with many outcomes of demons. The only issue really that I have with the gameplay is that it's so damn boringly SLOW! after 30 minutes you'll either fall asleep, or your brain starts to shut down causing you to lose IQ function... it get's BORING QUICKLY!

TRANSLATION: 18/20
This game;s translation is very well done, I did however see one symbol in the menu's that was untranslated.. unless it's meant to be that way. The text seems ell done but there's very little of it within the game itself. I didn't see any graphical issues, so over all I think DDSTranslations did a nice job.

OVER ALL: 63/100
I don't know what the fuss is over with all these Tensei games in any of the series' they are all near enough the same stories, near enough the same systems, seriously overrated. Do I recommend this game now? well.. if you're a fan of the entire series then sure, if you're not then don't waste your time.
