Might and Magic III - Isle of Terror (1995, SNES/SFC Gameplay 2022)
Might and Magic II - Isle of Terror is a Dungeon Crawler RPG port that came from the PC. It was released in 1995 on the SNES/SFC and is a port that should never have happened. It was Developed by Iguana Entertainment, and Published by FCI, Inc.
STORY: 5/20
No story leading in game so i'll quote the story.. "Emerging from the depths of the nebulous void, there came four lords. To each lord, a dominion: fire; water; air and earth. But each lord lusted for more -- to be the ultimate ruler of the void. The Four Lords of the Elements descended into a hideous conflict that unleashed a raging storm."-Gamefaqs
GRAPHICS: 8/20
So.. graphically the game I think is overdone, it's tried to be something special and stand-out from the other M&M games on the SNES/SFC that it actually does it more harm than good. Whilst yes.. there's more detail and colors in the areas, monsters, NPCs, etc.. (which i DO like) it's kinda made this game unnoticeable from the other M&Ms. The menu design is ugly and busy, as is all the other sub-menus. The game's screen is quite small because of all the huge clutter of the menu on the right of the screen. Spells and skills I didn't get to see but I am guessing they look just as bright but clash with everything, and probably look really basic.
SOUND: 5/20
The OST is okay, it's nothing special but it's not bad. Some songs are used over and over so the replay of them gets a little boring eventually. The sound effects are again.. okay and they got rid of that annoying hit a wall sound finally, and there's just a small handful of other SFX, shame that had to happen in such a bad port.
GAMEPLAY: 5/20
Oh god, it's bad, just bad, you are just plonked into a world with NO clue what to do, where to go, or anything so you aimlessly walk around revealing the town map bit by bit. The battles are easier at the start now and you can rest but only start with enough food for so many days.. so you run out pretty quick. You start with a whopping $25K Gold, so you get a fair advantage at the stores too in the beginning. The movement is real sluggish which is a shame, I found I had to press the move direction a few times for it to turn or move forward. Fighting at the start to me is just button mashing 1 button. The game's exploration is boring and slow as hell, you'll probably fall asleep before you even leave the first town.
SYSTEMS: 15/20
There's quite a lot of systems at work in this game, way too many to list but there's magic learning, skills learning, bank system, inns, stores, battle system, choice matters system, teleporting, a code system even for cheater... the list goes on and on.
OVER ALL: 38/100
This is a really bad port, STAY AWAY! If you MUST try this game out then do so by playing the FAR SUPERIOR version on the PC, unless of course THIS is the version you wish to play.
