This is Volfied running in MAME with the TC0030CMD 'C-chip' fully emulated rather than simulated. The C-chip is a custom Taito module which integrates a UPD78C11, RAM, ROM and a custom ASIC into a single package and is used for protection purposes. Thanks to the effort of Team Caps0ff it was possible to obtain the original ROM data from inside the module and correctly emulate the protection on the game for the first time ever.

The Volfied c-chip manages game palettes and some timers used by the game. It does not manage the timing in attract mode which still appears to be broken.

I wasn't able to observe any differences between the simulation and emulation in this case, it looks the guesses made by the simulation were probably correct. It has however allowed a significant amount of MAME code to be tidied up as MAME now makes use of the real c-chip code instead.
