Another FMV game on the Sega CD? Yep, that's Right! But this one's perfect for Halloween!

Similar to games like Myst or 7th Guest, Mansion of Hidden Souls uses pre-rendered FMV to move you around an invisible track (think D) and find clues and items to help you save your sister and escape the mansion.

Released in 1993, Mansion of Hidden Souls is actually a sequel to a Mega CD game in Japan. It makes good use of the SegaCD's video capabilities and while it may not be the best example of FMV on the system, the widescreen video does fill right to the edges of the screen. The game supports the Sega Mega Mouse although I wouldn't recommend it since you only tap your desired direction once on the d-pad to move to the next predetermined area and unlike Myst there's no need to click individual items on the screen so a mouse really isn't of any use in this game.

The dark mansion interiors have a really nice design to them with lots of style variation to the different rooms. There's actually a lot of detail put into the pre-rendered 3D models making the house look very realistic. The creepy music and voice-overs really add to the atmosphere. Like I said, it's a good game to play on Halloween! But this game certainly isn't for everyone. There's no action and very little interaction in the puzzles. Items are automatically picked up when you move to them so you really don't do much in this game but move around, watch some nice video footage and figure out the odd puzzle. But if you like games like Myst, 7th Guest and especially D on the 3DO (also ported to the PC, PS1 and Saturn) than you'll probably like this game too.
