Marvel vs. Capcom 1 [PS1] - Onslaught Partner Switch flaws/mess-ups
This is a demonstration of an odd flaw of Onslaught in the PS1 version of Marvel vs. Capcom. Read on below for more information...
This can only be achieved through an Onslaught vs. Onslaught match, which means that you need alternative methods to do this.
The flaw is caused by his Partner Switch super move.
In this version of the game, normally his Partner Switch move is used to switch Onslaught out to recover his life and switch in a clone of his opponent (because of PS1 hardware VRAM limitation). This will last for a short period before the clone jumps away and Onslaught returns.
So in a forced Onslaught vs. Onslaught match, when I use the Partner Switch move to switch Onslaught out, another Onslaught will switch in, because as mentioned above, it clones the opponent. Now this is where the flaw comes in... because I've used the Partner Switch move, eventually the cloned Onslaught is meant to jump away off the screen for the first Onslaught to return... except that it doesn't do that. Instead, it goes crazy with Shockwave animations and continuous Hyper Combo backgrounds!
At this point I just experiment with the Partner Switch move for the other Onslaught and see what happens. As you can see, it's quite messed up.
===== About Onslaught =====
Powerful Marvel comic villain who I believe is a combination of Magneto and Professor X. I do not have much knowledge of Marvel stuff, but I imagine this guy is evil.
===== About PS1 Marvel vs. Capcom =====
As with the previous two Vs. games, due to the RAM limitations of the PS1 hardware, huge cuts needed to be made in porting the arcade game to the console... and the main cut is the fact that you cannot switch characters during a fight. Therefore it operates more like a traditional one-on-one fighter, consisting of separate rounds. Tag elements such as the Support move, Counter and the Team Super Combo are still possible though.
Capcom have also included a mode called Cross Over which actually allows character tag-team switching - with the drawback being that 1P and 2P side's characters will always mirror each other. So for example, if Player 1 chooses Ryu and Spiderman, Player 2 will also have Spiderman and Ryu. By doing this it makes the tag-team switching possible because technically only 2 characters are stored in the PS1's RAM.
Other drawbacks include many animation sprite frame cuts, making some moves look a bit choppy and jerky. If you're used to the Arcade or Saturn versions and have a keen eye for sprites (like myself), you'll definitely notice the cuts.
New features of this version includes the ability to cancel Special Moves into Super Combos, and Super Combos into another Super Combo.
