X-Men vs. Street Fighter [PS1] - 7 UNUSED moves of Apocalypse
This is a demonstration of a number of unused Apocalypse moves in the PS1 version of X-Men vs. Street Fighter. Read on below for more information...
Apocalypse has 7 unused moves (maybe bar one) in the PS1 version of X-Men vs. Street Fighter. You cannot normally access these moves, so you need to use alternative methods to do this. As you can see in the video, the results are quite interesting. Here is a summary of the unused moves:
1) High Detached Floating Fist - his fist just detaches and floats forward for a short distance before returning to normal.
2) Low Detached Floating Fist - his fist detaches and floats forward forever, going off the far edge of the screen. It does not return to normal and Apocalypse is frozen in this state.
3) Head Flaw Shockwave - like a normal Fist Shockwave, but the sprites/frames used are all wrong. Any move can be cancelled into this, which produces some weird effects as you can see in the video.
4) White Arm - fist disappears and his arm turns into a white colour. Apocalypse is then frozen in this state. Any move can be cancelled into this, which produces some weird effects as you can see in the video.
5) Disco Arm - fist disappears and his arm turns into some odd palette of flashing colours. Apocalypse is then frozen in this state. Any move can be cancelled into this, which produces some weird effects as you can see in the video.
6) Invisible Mace Thump - fist and arm disappears and performs an invisible Mace Thump. He is then frozen in this state. Notice his head on his arm too. Any move can be cancelled into this, which produces some weird effects as you can see in the video.
7) Defeat - basically the event used when Apocalypse is defeated. Screen goes white and you find Apocalypse dead on the ground. Nothing else happens.
===== Additional Information =====
---- The unused Forcefield move from the Arcade version is nowhere to be found here.
---- The Japanese version of the game is known as X-Men vs. Street Fighter: EX Edition.
===== About Apocalypse =====
Famous Marvel cartoon villain who can change into a giant. Wonders around the world pretending to be a God because he can.
Gameplay-wise, he is a very slow, clunky and static character. All of his moves will leave him in a vulnerable position, which is understandable because he is a giant boss after all. The satellite lasers (which are CPU-controlled) are his best moves. The Drill is excellent as well - providing you catch the opponent with it.
===== About PS1 X-Men vs. Street Fighter =====
Due to the RAM limitations of the PS1 hardware, huge cuts needed to be made in porting the arcade game to the console... and the main cut is the fact that you cannot switch characters during a fight. Therefore it operates more like a traditional one-on-one fighter, consisting of separate rounds. Tag elements such as the Counter and the Team Super Combo are still possible though.
Other drawbacks include many animation sprite frame cuts, making some moves look a bit choppy and jerky. If you're used to the Arcade or Saturn versions and have a keen eye for sprites (like myself), you'll definitely notice the cuts.
New features of this version includes the ability to cancel Special Moves into Super Combos, and Super Combos into another Super Combo.
