This is an independent game made by a member who also resides on YouTube known as darkfalz. I'm always looking for something new or interesting to play. I first stumbled upon his channel when I saw a very neat-looking game known as "The Legend of Iya". While I must admit that I was more curious about that than Maziac, it's his only finished/released game so far, so I gave it a shot. Besides, beggars shouldn't be choosers ya know? It's free.

Made with the "Game Maker" program, Maziac is a simple but enjoyable puzzle/platform game with a decidely old-school look and sound where you play as Samantha, a girl who is out to rid the land of darkness as she travels trough a huge maze by using a magical torch. She is the last of a race of "Light Beings", and must seal the ultimate evil. The intrigue of the game comes from its lighting and how it plays a role in the game. Some areas are darker than others and enemies spawn from the darkness within the levels. You'll have an easier time by leaving torches that enemies leave behind (which produce their own light source) and by flicking flames through hallways to see otherwise not-so-easy-to-see things like obstacles and pits.

The game employs a sort of "Demon's Crest" system where you get different endings based on how thoroughly you complete the game. Samantha can shoot normal fireballs or charge her attack to send many fireballs, but it will leave her temporarily vulnerable. The game is pretty straightforward. This video just shows stuff. Enjoy.
