One Must Fall 2097 Game Sample - PC
Original Air Date: May 20, 2009
Wouldn't it be fun if we could pilot giant robots and smack people around in 2097? One Must Fall is a critically acclaimed 2D fighting game for the PC where robots can get turned into scrap. I'm going to be perfectly honest; This game is good, but I don't see what the big deal is. I won't pretend to be a PC game master, because I'm not. Actually, PC gaming (as in non-indie, Doujin, etc.) is my least explored gaming venture simply because of the various requirements needed to run them that differ for each game.
In this game, you get to choose between various pilots each (or most rather) with their own backstory drawing them to the event and statistics as well as a robot that they can pilot, which have different fighting styles. With ten for ten, you can form 100 combinations. The fighting itself is simple enough on the surface. You have a punch and kick button and can execute different attacks in a fashion all too familiar to fans of Street Fighter and similar fighting games. Characters even have a variety of fatality-esque moves in the form of Destruction Moves.
However, this game has a number of little and big touches that make it in some ways ahead of its time. Besides the standard fighting mode, you can enter a REAL tournament, as in, fighting and training and winning money and getting a rank and having your records recorded and other neat things (which is the bulk of the game). I like how the announcer describes your victory depending on how good you do and he even shows a picture of your finishing blow too.
You can also fight against others besides the computer and the game has a lot of hidden goodies and not-so-obvious features that you probably won't know how to access without an FAQ. You can even get points for doing combos or simply landing consecutive hits as well as for finishers. This is the standard fighting mode. Sorry for any glitches in the sound, they may be related to the operating system this game is running on. We have three computers and our oldest one has Windows 2000 and the compatibility change didn't help so... I'm at a loss. This game is available as freeware now btw. Enjoy.
