Mega Man X6 [XTREME]: Easiest Path to 100% - Part 4 - Defeating Commander Yammark
Please note: I am not playing at a high skill level. This is meant to be a guide for beginners or people who find this game too hard, so playing with too much practice would be self-defeating. This was recorded after I hadn't played a Mega Man game in over a year, on purpose.
The next two segments are quite possibly the hardest part of the run. See, Falcon X has a builtin 50% damage reduction that base X doesn't have. Zero, likewise, doesn't have this. So for these early stages where we've just switched to Zero, until we've built up a decent life pool for him, he's going to die rapidly. In this level, for instance, the large mantis enemies do a grip of damage, and it just takes a very few hits to wear out your welcome.
The main thing working in my favor here is Guard Shell. Whenever Zero has Guard Shell up his Z-Saber deals twice as many hits per second. This is a pretty absurd power boost to a character already as broken as Zero is in this game, and it tears through everything. Even still, the Mantis enemies respawn so quickly here, and have such a long range attack, that it's of little comfort. The key is to keep moving through the level quickly, which means learning the route beforehand.
The number of Reploids on your path here really helps mitigate the low HP problem, although keep in mind they're a one-time deal.
2:40 This last room is particularly brutal. I take the top route here to quickly get to the boss. This means I've left some Reploids down below, but they'll have to be cleaned up later.
3:29 Yammark, graciously, is a complete joke. Ideally she'll stay at ground level for her first move and you can just Z-Buster her to death, but as you can see here, even if she doesn't cooperate she's scarcely a problem. Worst case, like with Sheldon, you can just keep retrying her until you get a favorable pattern, since she dies in seconds.
There were two reasons we performed this as our next step. The primary reason was for the 2 Life-Ups, which is the biggest thing we need right now to weather the storm that is Xtreme Mode. But the other reason was for Yammark's ability, which gives Zero an extremely versatile long-range attack which he can fire in the air (unlike the Z-Buster). Between that and Guard Shell, we already have a ridiculous offensive arsenal at our disposal.
