Mega Man X6 [XTREME]: Easiest Path to 100% - Part 5 - Defeating Rainy Turtloid
Please note: I am not playing at a high skill level. This is meant to be a guide for beginners or people who find this game too hard, so playing with too much practice would be self-defeating. This was recorded after I hadn't played a Mega Man game in over a year, on purpose.
A lot of people hate Inami Temple's level design beyond all others, and it's hard to fault them, especially once the Nightmare phantoms have been added in. Much of the level is designed to cause you to constantly fall into pits, and the Nightmare Effects both make that worse. I choose to go with the Phantoms since they can be countered with Guard Shell. If you'd rather have the lighting effect, you should hop into Infinity Mijinion's stage briefly to switch the Nightmare here.
2:14 This jump, in particular, is much easier for Zero.
2:20 I was trying to get in position to slide on the platform and get the Reploid but... then I didn't.
2:30 So let's talk about this. As I mentioned earlier, this stage is designed to inflict a lot of pit deaths. One of the really irksome design quirks about X6 is that whenever you take a hit, you completely lose control of your character for a fairly substantial window. I'm not sure if this is the same mechanic as in the previous X games (X4 and X5), but even if it is, those games are designed for it to not come up very often. X6 is designed so that it comes up a lot. This whole level is structured so that you will take cheap hits and fall into pits constantly. My only advice here is try not to get discouraged and just keep practicing.
3:00 This section is otherwise fairly low-stress because of the energy pellets here assuring a full health refill.
3:14 Starting from here, however, reaching the next checkpoint is a harsh ordeal. It's very difficult to deal with both the Phantom Xs and the normal Nightmare enemies on Xtreme having projectile attacks, so you're going to take cheap hits, and they both hit Zero hard.
3:24 Another perfect example of a stray hit leading to instant pit death. Surrounded by five enemies, and my controls were completely locked out from the moment I took the hit until I was dead.
4:39 This one was a heartbreaker. I'd just disabled the acid rain effect so I should have been fine, but a projectile from the seahorse caught me just in time. So close...
6:18 There's an item beyond here which is possible to get now, but in the name of easiness, we'll be coming back after we have the D-Barrier.
6:42 I get tired of waiting for this idiot to attack and just decide to take the suicide.
7:06 This is the stage's Heart Tank, though you don't see it long in the vid.
9:21 Rainy Turtloid. The Guard Shell makes it pretty easy to tear through his gems and open him up, and then he takes rapid damage from the Z-Buster. With better execution this alone is enough to beat him, but... things go rough for me, so I use a trick the speedrunners use...
9:45 The big toe that Turtloid sticks out doesn't have iframes, even when his gems are up. As you can see, I tear huge chunks off of his HP when attacking here before he turns around.
Fortunately that section is over now. Unfortunately we'll have to do it again. Re-Fortunately we have two Life-Ups gathered here to give us a little bit more margin for error.
