Mega Man Zero 2: No Damage (Active Form) Hyleg Ourobockle
Mega Man Zero 2 (GBA), no damage taken in Hyleg Ourobockle's stage while achieving an S-Rank (100 points), Active Form only. This video's part of a series; a playthrough dedicated to using only the Active Form for more stylish and fresh gameplay. This is a NG+ file.
Hyleg Ourobockle (Forest of Dysis) Overview:
Okay, so the ending segment isn't exactly the most accurate way to describe this stage's difficulty (because pretty much most of it was just me messing around or making dumb mistakes). It's midly annoying at best, though none of the obstacles are what I'd consider cheap. The only problems you'd face here are the friggin' bees. They're so tiny, so hitting them can be a problem with the buster (unless you have an entire cluster of them), and the saber is more stressful because of their tiny hitbox AND how quickly they can fly at you after they're locked on. I opted for preemptive aerial rolling slashes for them, as they're very squishy. You breathe on them and they die, basically. Chain Rod's an excellent choice for a sub weapon here this time around. Not only for the required platforming traversing, but being a safe alternative to the buster against those bees, since the hitbox is superior to the buster (with the sacrifice of long range for mid range).
Like the Neo Arcadia Train, this stage is also affected by destroying Phoenix Magnion's stage. That means none of those buff Pantheons with the shield are here (but they do return during the revisit of this stage later on), and that means more grinding for full points. Honestly, I grinded a bit too much because I actually forgot the enemy point requirement for the full 15, so I just killed some more to be on the safe side.
Hyleg Ourobockle just got lucky in those outtakes, because otherwise, he's the second easiest of the first four bosses. Rise Form, Normal Form and any other form with the ability to triple slash disposes of him MUCH quicker than Active Form can due to their superior damage (as Active Form can't combo bosses due to rolling slashes not being able to bypass i-frames. Thankfully the ZX games changes that for the better), so it's the same case of Phoenix where it'd be ludicrous to not charge attack him. Of course, I opted for the buster + Tenshouzan pair to avoid relying on charged Z-Saber's OP damage.
Only thing you should watch out for is his tendency of pulling that oh-so annoying surprise on you. He'll attempt to grab you based on where you last stood before he sends his extended arms into the snake platforms to grab you. If you're even a frame too late at jumping to the desired block you want the arms to come out, he's got a nice pair of arms to grab you as you're trying to move back to where you stood for safety. Then there's that cheap shot of him jumping too fast and far to the end of the snake while it's already moving upward itself... this is actually unavoidable damage if you get stuck in the position I was in during the ending segment, so that's the game's middle finger to you. Best to try not to repeat those mistakes I made by staying centered for most of the fight. Move around only to avoid his grabs, swipes and jumps, but never move too far out to the edge itself.
