Mega Man Zero 2 (GBA), no damage taken in Fighting Fefnir's stage (Crystal Cave) while achieving an S-Rank (100 points); Active Form only. This video's part of a series; a playthrough dedicated to using only the Active Form for more stylish and fresh gameplay. This is a NG+ file.

Fighting Fefnir (Shuttle Factory) Overview:

Fefnir's stage is another one among my favorite stages (AND Passionate is definitely my second favorite stage theme in the game, right after Departure), and it really encourages you to just don't stop for anything. It's quite obvious that this is a VERY fatal stage if you mess up. Not only do you risk being smashed by the platforms, but you've also got lava to worry about and some tight platforming to boot. The main difficulty comes from getting the right cycle for the platforms, which is very similar to Kuwagust's stage. However, unlike that stage, this ones doesn't have BS shots to mess with you. You get the right cycle by simply speeding through the dialogue and keeping your speed in check. You'll always get the same cycle this way, and by doing so, you've got safe passage to speed run until the end of the area. Second half of the stage isn't worth mentioning. It's your basic platforming.

Now fighting Fefnir (hue) is very interesting, yet easy. For starters, you basically render the majority of his attacks useless via the Shield Boomerang, but if you aren't careful, he CAN still hit you from behind, so you can't just keep the shield up all the time and expect to deflect everything. But the protection the shield grants you is still deceptively larger than it appears. Fefnir could shot you from straight above and it'll still deflect his shots if you move just right. Honestly, he's the guardian that actually got a downgrade from his Zero 1 appearance. Sure, he functions the same with the randomized patterns, but his special attack was completely changed (just like Harpuia and Leviathan's) to something much worse than his Zero 1 special. By "worse", I mean worse for him. The thing's laughably easy to dodge, even when he corners you with it. His invincible aura doesn't hurt you. Get back in the training room, Fefnir.
