Merging Art Design and Game Design in The Eyes of Ara
In this session, Ben Droste will speak about how fundamental art principles were used when designing and constructing the environments in his new indie adventure-puzzle game, The Eyes of Ara. Using examples from the game, Ben will cover how considerations of composition, lighting, colour, and post effects can be used to guide a player through an environment, inform the gameplay, and tell the story, all the while looking pretty in the process.
Ben will also speak briefly about the process of building The Eyes of Ara as a one-person studio. The tools and processes used, and some of the challenges involved coming from an art background with no programming experience.
