In today's episode of the "Metroid Prime" playthrough, we explore the Space Pirates' base in Phendrana Drifts, gain access to super missiles and the thermal visor, and encounter our first metroid.

Since there's no where else to go, we enter the Space Pirates' main base of operations in Phendrana Drifts, which is surprisingly inactive. Sure, there are plenty of Space Pirates defending them, including two new types (one that can turn invisible, but can only attack with melee weapons and another that can fly), but for a research facility, there's nothing really notable outside of some data logs, some notes on the other planets in the system, and some floating metroids.
Though speaking of the lattermost, one of them breaks out of its containment tube, forcing us to fight it. Unfortunately, we don't currently have access to an ice beam, so we'll have to rely on our trusty charge shot and the ability to fire super missiles, which we find in the base, if we want to take them down quickly. But no matter how well-armed we are, I'll always be nervous when fighting against metroids in the "Prime" games because when they latch onto you in standard view, they go full-on face hugger, which never fails to jump scare me.
