Metroid Prime - Episode 11: Bust a Tower for the Wavebuster
In today's episode of the "Metroid Prime" playthrough, we do a bit of exploring, get an upgrade for our Wave Beam, and make our way back to Phendrana Drifts in order to get the next big ability that we'll need to progress the game.
On that ledge where we found the Ice Beam, there are two elevators leading back to the Tallon Overworld. Behind the ice door, you'll find the elevator leading to Tallon Overworld South, which we can't really do much in but will become important later on once we get some new abilities. As for the other one, the elevator that leads to Tallon Overworld East, it can be found at the end of that pipe in the save room and you can find a missile expansion, but be careful in this area because once you drop off the ledge in the Frigate Crash Site, you can't get back up. So if you want to return to that section of the Chozo Ruins, you'll need to head back the long way.
Though speaking of the Chozo Ruins, thanks to the Spider Ball, we can reach the Tower of Light, where we can get the Wavebuster, an optional upgrade for our Wave Beam, by destroying all of the pillars in the room with missiles. Essentially, the Wavebuster is the Wave Beam's version of super missiles, but instead of firing one powerful missile that costs five standard ones to use, it fires a continuous beam that can be used for as long as you have the missiles to power it. But personally, unless I'm dealing with a really powerful enemy that can only be damaged with the Wave Beam (which isn't very common), I prefer super missiles due to the substantially lower cost.
