Metroid Prime - Episode 6: Two Beams are Better than One
In today's episode of the "Metroid Prime" playthrough, we find another Chozo Artifact before returning to Phendrana Drifts and getting the Wave Beam from inside a Chozo Temple.
With the ability to double-jump in hand, we make our way back to Phendrana Drifts in order to pick up where we left off. However, while we're going through Magmoor Caverns, we can use our new abilities to reach the upper section of the Monitor Room, which grants us access to our second Chozo Artifact: the Artifact of Strength.
As for Phendrana Drifts, using our new double-jump, we can reach that Chozo Temple that we saw during our first trip, where we find the Wave Beam, the second of the game's four beams, inside. But before we can get the Wave Beam, we need to first defeat an adult Sheegoth, which can be easily done by waiting for it to tire itself out before blasting its mouth with missiles.
Though while Wave Beam looks cool, I find it to be the most useless beam in the game as far as combat goes. Sure, the Wave Beam can stun enemies, but due to its reduced power, it's much quicker just to use one of the other beams. Not to mention, the few enemies that can only be defeated with the Wave Beam can be easily ignored since the game treats the more as obstacles than actual foes.
