Metroid Prime - Episode 5: One Small Boost for Samus, One Large Jump in Progress for Us
In today's episode of the "Metroid Prime" playthrough, we explore some of Phendrana Drifts, get the Boost Ball and Space Jump Boots, and are introduced to one of the game's main collectables: the Chozo Artifacts.
After making our way through a few of Phendrana Drifts' areas while decimating the local fauna, we come across one of my favorite items in the game: the Boost Ball. I've always loved how the Boost Ball allows for you to speed around the world, as well as have some fun in using the halfpipes scattered around the world to reach new heights. For example, as soon as we get the Boost Ball, we need to head back to the Tallon Overworld (specifically, the room right in front of the elevator to the Chozo Ruins) and use the halfpipe in order to access a room near Samus' ship that contains the Space Jump Boots.
So now that we have the ability to double-jump, we can head back to Phendrana Drifts in order to get some new abilities, but before we do that, since we have the missile launcher, we can use one of the doors near Samus' ship in order to access the Impact Crater, which introduces us to arguably one of the most important collectables in the game: the Chozo Artifacts.
While the game doesn't really mention the Chozo Artifacts, you're going to need all 12 of them in order to access the final boss and with the exception of the first one that we find in this video and one other, they're hidden pretty well and will require a good amount of exploration to find them. As such, in order to reduce backtracking, we'll be collecting them over the course of the game whenever the opportunity arises.
