After leaving the factory, Snake sneaks through the small base built near the crevice known as Bolshaya Past. Upon reaching the crevice itself, Snake is ambushed by Ocelot who reveals to have intercepted him, intending to settle the score with him for having humiliated him twice by defeating him in one-on-one shootout for which he has acquired two combat-ready revolvers, ensuring that Snake cannot back out by positioning multiple armed GRU operatives in the nearby treeline. With no other choice, Snake engages Ocelot in a brief shootout that ends in a draw as they are interrupted by sudden appearance of a large hornet swarm that attacks everyone present, killing several GRU operatives who observed the fight while Ocelot himself is able to escape unscathed. However, Snake ends up disoriented by the hornets, falling into the crevice while trying to shake them off. Now stuck in the cave at the bottom of the crevice, Snake is ordered to find a way through in order to continue his mission, an assignment made a lot more difficult by the fact that the cave is extremely dark and Snake doesn't have any conventional light sources on his person...
