MGS2: Sons Of Liberty Walkthrough Part 7: Solid And Solidus (Harrier Fighter Jet Boss Fight)
1Raiden successfully locates and acquires a sniper rifle and returns to the bridge connecting Shell 1 and 2, proceeding to disable IR sensors lining the bridge. As he finishes, Raiden is contacted by Pliskin who tells him that he has successfully secured a helicopter that can be used to transport the hostages from Shell 1 to safety and introduces him to his associate meant to pilot the said helicopter, doctor Hal "Otacon" Emmerich, who came to Big Shell to save his step-sister. Immediately after their conversation ends, Raiden contacts Campbell, realizing that Pliskin is almost definitely Solid Snake despite both Campbell and Rose remaining unconvinced, citing the fact that Solid Snake's corpse was identified and buried after he died during the Tanker incident two years prior. As their conversation ends, Pliskin and Otacon arrive in the helicopter, intending to land it on an nearby heliport. However, just then, Raiden notices the terrorist leader watching him from the other side of the bridge, referring to Raiden as the "messenger from the Patriots" and once again introducing himself as Solid Snake. However, Pliskin yells out that the terrorist leader is not Solid Snake, drawing the man's attention to himself. Recognizing him, terrorist leader refers to Pliskin as brother and calls him Snake, confirming Raiden's earlier suspicions about Pliskin's real identity. Immediately, Snake attacks the terrorist leader who removes his coat while evading Snake's shots, revealing himself to wear an advanced suit capable of increasing his physical strength, using that ability to continue evading Snake as he resorts to firing at him with the grenade launcher, ultimately seemingly forcing him to leap off the bridge. However, the terrorist leader has survived, having landed on top of AV-8B Harrier fighter jet piloted by still-living Vamp. Upon entering the jet's co-pilot seat, terrorist leader swears to shoot Snake and Otacon down for interfering, shooting a missile that ultimately hits the doorway leading into Shell 1, thus stranding Raiden on the bridge. Aware that they don't stand a chance against a fighter jet on their own, Snake tosses a Stinger rocket launcher to Raiden, urging him to use it to shoot the Harrier down. In the ensuing fight, Raiden and Snake work together to damage the jet as it strafes around the bridge in an attempt to kill Raiden, severely damaging it in the process. Eventually, the jet is too damaged to continue flying with the terrorist leader having lost an eye in the fight. As it careens towards the sea, Harrier is suddenly grabbed by Metal Gear RAY that leaps out of the water, much to Raiden's shock with the unmanned super weapon proceeding to fire off several missiles in various directions, severely damaging parts of Big Shell and Snake's helicopter which is forced to make an emergency landing while Vamp evacuates destroyed Harrier upon being ordered to do so by the terrorist leader moments before Metal Gear RAY leaps back underwater with Harrier still in its "mouth". Contacting Snake immediately afterwards, Raiden learns that helicopter will require some repairs and that he has faked his death two years prior by stealing and planting the corpse of Liquid Snake as his own, a deception having been successful due to the fact that Solid and Liquid are genetically identical and that both Snake and Otacon have started their anti-Metal Gear organization and undertook borderline terrorist actions all over the world in order to prevent such weapon from being developed by the wrong people who may wish to threaten the world as a whole. Immediately afterwards, Raiden contacts Campbell who remains unconvinced that real Solid Snake came onboard Big Shell and remains surprisingly cold and even angry towards him despite having worked with Snake for years in FOXHOUND and during Shadow Moses Incident...
