Arch Tempered Vaal Hazak has an interesting AI in that if it does not know who attacked it, it will do a backhop until it finds the culprit. Turns out we can loop this behaviour theoretically endlessly.

There is a vision cone that Vaal uses to search for players. If Vaal never spotted the player in the first place, any hit will cause it to do the aforementioned backhop. The challenge then is staying in its blind spot.

00:20 - 08:19
A full length clip of me trying to slay Vaal without it turning hostile. Spoiler alert, I failed. Near the end I got trapped by its foreleg and that pushed me into its line of sight. Some interesting cases here and there like the part break at 02:50, which gave me the window to sharpen my toothpick. Otherwise, it's mainly here for archive. Feel free to skip ahead or fast forward.

The rest of the video are some clips highlighting some key weak points in this exploit:

i) Vaal will roar after certain damage thresholds. During that time, it has the best chance to spot the player. This can be countered by staying under it when it starts to roar, and going under and behind it before the roar ends. When it goes back to roaming, attacking it will resume the loop... hopefully anyways. There seem to be other factors at play here.

ii) When Vaal roars, it will start to exert its effluvium regardless of whether it spots the player. I guess this is to be expected with Vaal.

iii) I have not found any good moment to sharpen my weapon. I tried doing that after Vaal roars, but that seems to mess up the loop by giving Vaal time to move a bit. Not only that, the setup for this location barely gives me any time to set up Protective Polish, so I omit it for the time being.

This is trickier than it looks. I couldn't even run my weapon's sharpness dry before messing some parts up by accident.
