Nether Wart Farming can be quite useful and beneficial to your overall minecraft journey. Netherwart is the basis of the majority of potions that can be created with the brewing stand in Minecraft. Whether Minecraft 1.4.6, 1.5, or even 1.2.5, Nether Wart is a useful commodity both in having and in trading.
Since Minecraft 1.3, you can now create netherwart farms in the overworld, which opens up many opportunities for those who plan on farming. You no longer have to go to the Nether every time you wish to build a mini farm and can do one right in your backyard.
Using just a few pistons, some redstone, and a lever, you can create a semi-automatic netherwart farm. With a large enough farm in combination with a wave of water, you can automate many of the tasks needed to fully automate a nether wart farm (not shown in this tutorial).
Minecraft 1.4.6 was released in Middle of December 2012 and is a great addition to the Minecraft family with lots of great possibilities coming up.
