MiSTer FPGA - Master of Darkness [1cc] / Sega Master System
0The first of today's duo of Halloween games is a Castlevania clone for SMS; Master of Darkness. This game was a decent substitution if you had no way of playing a proper Castlevania game back in the day, but doesn't hold up particularly well in retrospect. Lots of cheaply placed items to downgrade your weapon (literally in front of *every* boss battle..), and overall a weakly designed set of stages, makes this a bit of a sub-par experience compared to the series it tries so hard to emulate. The variety of enemies, weapons and sub-items are also very lackluster.
Still a decent playthrough that doesn't take very long to get to the end of, and a walk in the park if you are used to the higher difficulty of Castlevania games. This was my first time playing through the game and I managed to 1cc it. Got a lost for a bit in the maze stage at the end, but besides that it was pretty straight-forward. There are branching paths in this game, so perhaps there are some other secrets to be uncovered here.
