MiSTer FPGA - Super Skidmarks + [2 Player] / Amiga
This was our first time trying any of the often-recommended Skidmarks games for Amiga, and it definitely is a solid top-down isometric racer. Very reminiscent of the Super Off-Road arcade game, and features up to 8 player multiplayer! The menus are very awkward and I fumbled around them a bit trying to get started, but timestamps are available to skip to the racing portion.
The odd interlaced effect on the cars where every other line is black when viewed from most angles, only occurs when playing in the default Lo-Res display mode. Things are much further zoomed out in the Hi-Res mode, making it a bit more difficult to see the elevation changes in the track and drive as well. Probably best to try the Hi-Res option after familiarizing yourself with the tracks in Lo-Res mode first.
I recorded a follow-up video that shows the car graphics correctly and includes the Hi-Res mode in the Super version: https://youtu.be/VVFbGbI_uLo
The Amiga core needs to be set for A1200/AGA for this game.
The large variety of tracks and vehicles in the game give it a surprising amount of depth- well worth revisiting. I'll do a single player video in Hi-Res featuring the tournament mode in the future.
If anyone has some recommendations for Amiga games to try (both single and two-player) please leave a comment below. My buddy loves classic computers and Atari consoles so that's generally what we spend time with when he visits. He also never had any exposure to the Amiga, but it's a system we would both like to explore further.
